WHERE? Katrina Chewed Bay St. Louis, MS
WHAT? Lagniappe Presbyterian Church and Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build: 10 Houses in 1 Week!
WHEN? May 12-16, 2008. Please arrive at Lagniappe in time for a mandatory orientation on Sunday evening, May 11, at 7:00 pm. Construction will begin Monday morning, May 12. The build will last through Friday the 16th, with dedications that afternoon.
COST? $20 per day to stay at Lagniappe, plus an additional $50 for the week to help cover tool belts, snacks, water, etc. Total cost: 7 nights $190. The fees you pay are for the sole purpose of covering costs assessed by Lagniappe PCA. MNA receives no income or financial benefit from the fees you pay.
We are seeking to recruit 50 volunteers. It’s short notice, but if you or someone you know is interested, please pass this information along and consider joining us. Volunteers with higher construction skills are needed. 10 houses in one week is a feat! It is a ‘first come first serve’ sign up. If you have been considering Habitat involvement in your own community and would like to know how it all works, join with us on this build and you will better understand how churches can work together with other faith-based organizations and advance the Gospel through practical deeds of justice and mercy.
The blitz build will take place in Diamondhead, just across the bay from Lagniappe Presbyterian Church. Volunteers will drive themselves to a designated parking area in Diamondhead. Devotions will be held there from 7:30-7:45 AM. Our volunteers will be picked up by buses and dropped off at the work sites. Lunch, sponsored by various restaurants in the community, will be provided at these sites. Volunteers will likely work until 4:30 or 5 PM, at which time buses will take them back to their cars and they will return to Lagniappe. Dinner will be served at Lagniappe every night except Wednesday. We encourage volunteers to eat out that night in the community, thereby helping the restoration of the Bay St. Louis economy.
There will be over 500 volunteers from all over the United States --200 of whom will be staying at Lagniappe Presbyterian Church, PCA. Lagniappe and Mission to North America consider it a privilege to participate in this effort. Lagniappe construction staff will provide on-site supervision, and the entire Lagniappe staff will participate in this building effort. This will be a high energy, physically demanding week with exciting results. This is an incredible opportunity to participate in the restoration with Habitat for Humanity. Although this is a busy time of year, with school winding down and summer starting up, it will be an incredible experience and one worthy of the effort. Thank you all for your work in restoring the Gulf Coast. We are grateful!!
