Welcome

"If you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings."   Isaiah 58:10-12

Hello, my name is Arklie Hooten, MNA ShortTerm Missions and Disaster Response Director, and I would like to welcome you to MNA Disaster Response. I serve the churches and presbyteries of the PCA to help them coordinate practical assistance to people in need as a result of hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, man-made calamities and other such circumstances. My desire is to organize churches and presbyteries to respond to disasters all across North America in the spirit of God's grace and mercy. As you explore these pages, we hope that you will be motivated and inspired to join with us in loving service to the people of our communities who may one day face the prospect of a devastating catastrophe.

MNA Disaster Response Vision
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, PCA members, churches and presbyteries organized in great numbers to address the needs of our churches and communities. When future disasters occur, MNA will continue to coordinate disaster response through grass-roots mobilization.

We seek churches and presbyteries who will:
  • Recruit, equip and train Advance Assessment Teams to take the lead in investigating relief needs and formulating a strategy for disaster response.
  • Set up and equip the staging sites following a disaster, to provide an operational base for volunteer work teams.
  • Provide leadership for ongoing site management and relief operations.
MNA ShortTerm Missions and Disaster Response Director, Arklie Hooten
Arklie is an elder at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton, TN. He and his wife Katherine are experienced in short-term missions. Arklie has organized and led mission teams in the United States - including extensive work on Native American reservations - as well as in Mexico and Canada. Encouraging others in Kingdom work has been one of Arklie's greatest joys. On June 1, 2005, Arklie began leading the development of MNA ShortTerm Missions. After helping coordinate relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina in fall 2005, Arklie was called to lead MNA Disaster Response.

YOU CAN HELP
We continue to welcome individuals who wish to join in relief efforts, but MNA's desire is to see our disaster response unfold through the coordination of our churches and presbyteries. Through these efforts we hope to share the love of Christ by meeting victims' immediate needs as well as helping to rebuild their lives. God has given the PCA great resources for relief ministry in many areas. Perhaps God is calling you to be part of His response to people in their time of need.

Prayer Support
  • Pray that God's Kingdom will be extended through this work.
  • Pray for prayer supporters and financial supporters committed to disaster response. This ministry is funded solely by designated gifts to MNA.
  • Pray for the development of good relationships with churches and presbyteries who will benefit from this ministry in the coming years of work.
  • Pray for God's help and sustaining presence for the victims of disasters.
