MNA is still receiving reports from churches in the Houston area regarding damages both to their physical plants and to the homes of their congregants. We have already determined that three of our churches in the Houston Metro area have sustained damage to their physical plants. Several PCA families have damaged homes and are waiting for insurance adjusters to complete surveys.
MNA Disaster Response has been working closely with the Houston Metro Presbytery, and now working together we have determined that the need for volunteers is very limited. Most physical needs will be met by sister PCA churches within the region.
How can you best help? Almost every church within the affected region has experienced some damage, mostly shingles being blown off. Three churches have moderate damage. All of these needs will be addressed by insurance. Even so, significant deductibles will need to be met; in some cases in the tens of thousands of dollars. At the same time most of the churches will be helping church members meet significant deductibles for home damages. Prayerfully consider making a contribution to help meet these deductibles.
Please consider giving generously to the MNA 2008 Hurricane Relief Fund, or if you prefer, giving to a specific event or city. MNA is now coordinating disaster response in Louisiana areas affected by Gustav;coordinating the work in the aftermath of Iowa's flooding;and assisting El Shaddai Ministries in Haiti. This is while ongoing work continues in Bay St. Louis MS and New Orleans LA. Each offers opportunities for volunteers to serve, and each requires financial support for relief operations.
